Regions of Canada

Everyone has done an amazing job this unit researching the different regions of Canada. We have used textbooks, Google Maps, and Google to explore different Canadian identities and regions. This Friday we will have a short quiz on the Regions of Canada before our final project is due to ensure everyone understands the concepts! If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask me in class - I am here to HELP!!

Parents, the curriculum expectations listed below describe the learning goals of the game provided:

• name and locate the various physical regions, provinces, and territories of Canada and identify the chief natural resources of each; 
• – identify Canada’s provinces and territories and its main physical regions (e.g., Canadian Shield, Appalachians, Hudson Bay lowlands, Arctic lowlands,Great Lakes–St. Lawrence lowlands, interior plains, cordilleras)

This link will allow students to demonstrate their understanding of the location of the different provinces in relation to one another. If students are unsure of the answer the game will correct the student and show them the appropriate location. Students can work the different levels to challenge their knowledge!

 

Math Activity

I think it is important for students to know the basics of math! This includes adding and subtracting without the use of a calculator.

Students, we have been having difficulty in math adding and subtracting large numbers.
In class we have been learning different mental strategies to break down the numbers into a simpler question. Please refer to the game below for practice! Everyone has been doing an amazing job - Keep up the great work!

Parents, below is  the math expectations that this game covers. Students should be working on improving a variety of mental math strategies.

This game is beneficial as students can pick their level of difficulty. Therefore, students should start at a lower level and work their way up - increasing their confidence! As well, this game also provides students with the right answer in case they may have got a question wrong so they can continue to learn as the game proceeds.

I have provided examples to explain what we have been exploring in class.
We have been practicing a lot in class but I believe it would be beneficial for students to practice these math skills at home on a weekly basis.
