My Philosphy of Tech-enhanced Teaching

Try our slideshow creator at Animoto.

 This video will express my views on tech-enhanced teaching!!

                A teacher who engages in tech-enhanced teaching has both pedagogical and technological knowledge. Teachers need to know how to implement technology in the classroom while maintaining their classroom management – this task takes experience and practice!
 In my opinion, a teacher who engages in tech-enhanced teaching needs to keep updated with changing technologies to maintain student interest. This task may be a challenge as technology is rapidly changing!
Teachers who implement technology in their class need to be creative! Teachers need to find novel and interesting ways to connect technology to curriculum expectations in a variety of subjects.

Regions of Canada

Everyone has done an amazing job this unit researching the different regions of Canada. We have used textbooks, Google Maps, and Google to explore different Canadian identities and regions. This Friday we will have a short quiz on the Regions of Canada before our final project is due to ensure everyone understands the concepts! If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask me in class - I am here to HELP!!

Students, in class we have been exploring the regions of Canada. Please check out the link below and practice for your quiz on Friday!

PLAY!

Good luck on your quiz!!

Parents, the curriculum expectations listed below describe the learning goals of the game provided:

  • name and locate the various physical regions, provinces, and territories of Canada and identify the chief natural resources of each;
    • – identify Canada’s provinces and territories and its main physical regions (e.g., Canadian Shield, Appalachians, Hudson Bay lowlands, Arctic lowlands,Great Lakes–St. Lawrence lowlands, interior plains, cordilleras)
This link will allow students to demonstrate their understanding of the location of the different provinces in relation to one another. If students are unsure of the answer the game will correct the student and show them the appropriate location. Students can work the different levels to challenge their knowledge!

Math Activity

I think it is important for students to know the basics of math! This includes adding and subtracting without the use of a calculator.

Students, we have been having difficulty in math adding and subtracting large numbers.
In class we have been learning different mental strategies to break down the numbers into a simpler question. Please refer to the game below for practice! Everyone has been doing an amazing job - Keep up the great work!

Practice!!

Parents, below is  the math expectations that this game covers. Students should be working on improving a variety of mental math strategies.

This game is beneficial as students can pick their level of difficulty. Therefore, students should start at a lower level and work their way up - increasing their confidence! As well, this game also provides students with the right answer in case they may have got a question wrong so they can continue to learn as the game proceeds.

I have provided examples to explain what we have been exploring in class.
We have been practicing a lot in class but I believe it would be beneficial for students to practice these math skills at home on a weekly basis.

MA.4.2.4
Operational Sense
MA.4.2.4.1
By the end of grade 4, students will: add and subtract two-digit numbers, using a variety of mental strategies (e.g., one way to calculate 73 – 39 is to subtract 40 from 73 to get 33, and then add 1 back to get 34);
MA.4.2.4.2
By the end of grade 4, students will: solve problems involving the addition and subtraction of four-digit numbers, using student-generated algorithms and standard algorithms (e.g., “I added 4217 + 1914 using 5000 + 1100 + 20 + 11.”);

Links

Listed below are links that you may find useful:

I like to post reminders and interesting facts on my Twitter account. Occasionally, twitter will be used in the classroom to promote class discussions and participation. Follow me on twitter for more important information and classroom discussions Tweet Me!

In class we have been focusing on how to create a goal setting plan! Here is the link to the video Troy Adams created for our lesson on goal setting Troy Adams - Brain Injury Awareness on September 27, 2013.

This term we will be focusing on Habitats - which is of great interest to me! I am passionate about conservation and learning more about what I can do as a person to save endangered species. It is important for humans to understand how they affect habitats, the environment, and overall other species. To inform yourself please check out the WWF - World Wildlife Federation! We will be referring to this organization a lot in class!

I love to use the website Pinterest - I pin classroom ideas, interests, and more! I usually go on Pinterst about once a week to get new ideas for the classroom. In my spare time I also love to bake and do crafts. This site has amazing and easy to follow instructions for lots of projects! To learn more about me go to my Pinterest page and look at my board "All About Me".

Resources

Students! Below I have listed some links that I think you may find useful:

Here is a site you may find helpful when researching information, Google! I think it is important for students to become good researchers. We will be spending a lot of time this year researching topics such as Canadian Regions, habitats, and more! This site can help you quickly ask something as well as use Google maps to locate different places.

We will be spending a lot of time typing and creating projects on the computers. When struggling with spelling check out the dictionary! This is a quick resource that can help you look up words, how to say words, as well as word synonyms.
